Are you worried about your next dental procedure? Do dental visits generally make you anxious? Sedation dentistry might be the perfect solution to ease your concerns! Oral hygiene and dental care are crucial for your overall health. We want to make sure you receive the treatment you need without the usual anxiety of a dental visit. That’s why we offer a range of safe and highly effective sedation options. Dr. Placeholder and the team are highly trained in both oral conscious sedation and inhalation sedation.

Conscious Sedation

Conscious Sedation refers to a state of reduced consciousness where the patient can independently maintain their airway and respond to physical and verbal stimuli. This state can be achieved through various pharmacological or non-pharmacological methods.

Sedation Dentistry, also known as Relaxation Dentistry, involves techniques that help manage pain and anxiety during dental visits. Unlike General Anesthesia, where the patient is completely unconscious and unresponsive, Conscious Sedation allows patients to stay awake and responsive while breathing on their own.

There are several methods for administering sedation drugs. At Triad Dental Implants Surgical Center, sedation is commonly provided through inhalation conscious sedation, also known as Nitrous Oxide or "laughing gas." This method is widely used in dentistry. It allows all bodily functions to remain normal, and the patient can breathe independently. Patients often fall asleep and may have some memory loss of the procedure. Inhalation Sedation has been a trusted method in dentistry for many years.

Advantages of Nitrous Oxide:

Works well for mild to moderate anxiety

Rapid onset

Flexible duration can be used for any appointment length

Absolute control. It is easy to quickly control the level of sedation which may be altered moment to moment.

People recover quickly

Very few side effects

There is an analgesic effect

You can drive yourself to and from your dental appointment

You can return to normal activities immediately

Disadvantages of Nitrous Oxide:

Severe anxiety may require a deeper level of sedation

Not indicated for people who have respiratory problems (Asthma and Emphysema)

Claustrophobic patients often do not like anything covering their nose
